The Fall 2016 Philosophy Colloquium Series presents Miira Tuomimen, University of Jyvskyla. Her talk is entitled "Justice In Porphyry's Ethics Of On Abstinence." The Neoplatonist Porphyry's work *On Abstinence from Killing Animals* (literally: On Abstaining from Living Things) is well known for its arguments against eating animals, but it contains much more than this. Professor Tuominen takes up Porphyry's claims about justice, which go beyond earlier, better-known accounts of justice in ancient philosophy and are arguably more focused on the good of others.
Friday, Nov 4, 3-5pm, Maloney Seminar Room, Social Sciences 224.
